Psychological Therapy
Lighthouse Psychology is a full-service psychology practice.
Psychological Therapy
Therapy requires a trusting relationship between you and your therapist. Our goal is to make you comfortable so you can work on what is important to you. We offer client-centred therapy, cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT), Jungian therapy, dialectical-behavioural therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and play-based therapy, among others. We also offer family and relationship therapy.
At Lighthouse Psychology Services, we use progress monitoring measures to track your progress and ensure that you are benefiting from treatment. We also use session rating measures to ensure that the therapist's approach is working for you.
Psychological Therapy Services offered at Lighthouse Psychology:
Some specialized forms of therapy are explained below:
Child and Youth Therapy
Sometimes, children and youth need therapy. At Lighthouse Psychology Services, we take a family-focused perspective on working with children and youth. We want parents to have the skills to understand and help support their children to cope with stress and emotions. All child therapy is conducted with one or both parents present and participating. Older teens may work with us individually, although parents are closely involved.
Couples’ Counselling
Falling in love is often the easiest and most satisfying part of relationships. However, living together and getting along can be challenging. At Lighthouse Psychology Services, we have therapists who specialize in helping couples improve their relationships so that they can grow into a positive future together rather than struggling along or falling apart.
Family Therapy
Family therapy focuses on family interactions and dynamics. Siblings can be the best of friends and the worst of enemies. Parenting can be challenging, and can make you feel inadequate or guilty. At Lighthouse Psychology Services, we have therapists who help families to function better so that you can appreciate each other and work together effectively. That way, you can put your energy into growing together and enjoying your time together.
Anxiety and Depression
The most common emotional problems people face during their lifetime are anxiety and depression. At Lighthouse Psychology Services, all of our therapists are experienced at helping people deal with anxiety and depression. We can help you navigate through these emotional challenges and teach you the skills to cope so that you can have a successful and satisfying life.
Trauma Therapy
Many people experience traumatic events such as motor vehicle accidents, the loss of a loved one, even assaults. While many are able to cope without seeing a psychologist, sometimes trauma just doesn’t go away. It can disrupt your daily activities and affect your quality of life. Fortunately, there are ways to help you navigate and overcome the effects of trauma. At Lighthouse Psychology Services, our therapists have experience with treating trauma, and are here to help.
Group Therapy (e.g., ADHD)
Group therapy can be a cost-effective way to help you improve your functioning. In addition, group therapy offers some things that individual therapy can’t. Gathering with others who understand your challenges firsthand can be reaffirming and validating. It can also give you hope, strategies, and connections that individual therapy doesn’t. At Lighthouse Psychology Services, we have therapists who specialize in working with small groups of clients to improve your functioning.
Career Counselling
Career counselling is a process of helping you to understand your own strengths, skills, and aptitudes, while understanding the values and interests you bring to your career. At Lighthouse Psychology Services, we view career counselling as a personal learning process. We try to give you the tools and knowledge so you can make the right decisions for yourself – both today and in the future.
ADHD and Autism Support
ADHD and Autism are neurodevelopmental conditions that can be managed with the right tools and approaches. We can’t make either of these conditions disappear, but we can help you to cope better with them in a world that does not always understand or appreciate neurodiversity. We can help you with information and resources, skills and strategies, connection to community supports and services, and some good old-fashioned empathy and a listening ear. At Lighthouse Psychology Services, we understand ADHD and we understand the diversity that is called autism. We don’t judge, and we don’t expect you to just conform. We work to help you find your own path.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
OCD can be one of the most impairing conditions to develop. Fortunately, it is treatable. At Lighthouse Psychology Services, we have over 25 years of experience treating OCD.
Death, Loss, Grief, and Near-Death Experiences
We all experience death and loss at some point in our lives. And grieving takes its own path, which is unique for everyone. Many people find that community grieving ceremonies like funerals and memorial services are sufficient. However, some people can feel stuck in their grief, immobilized by their emotions, lost and adrift. At Lighthouse Psychology Services, our goal is not to help you “get over” your loss, but to be able to live life fully while remembering your loved one. When a relationship is deep and meaningful, time alone is not enough to heal. We can help you to navigate these experiences, including the loss of a loved one, an animal or pet, the loss of a marriage, a job, or anything else that has impacted you.
Some people have near-death experiences during or after significant medical events. These experiences are often unexpected and can be life-altering. In our society today, it’s often difficult to talk about these experiences, even among religious and spiritual circles. At Lighthouse Psychology Services, we understand. We are here to listen to you, to talk with you, and to help you make sense of your own experience so that you can move forward and live your life. Dr. Zwiers is a psychologist who has experience and sensitivity with near-death experiencers. No judgement. No labels. Just empathy, support, encouragement, and the most important of human emotions.
Hypnosis
Did you know that hypnosis can help with anxiety, pain management, test-taking, phobias like needles and fear of flying, childbirth, and can even help you stop smoking? No tricks are involved. Trance is a natural state that many of us experience throughout our day. Hypnosis is a method that helps you to tap into your own self control over your anxiety, physiology, and even your motivation and confidence. Although stage hypnotists use group hypnosis to create entertainment, therapeutic hypnosis is very different. In therapy, you are the one in control. You set the goals, you decide the methods that work for you, and you learn how to use these skills in your daily life. Dr. Zwiers has been using hypnosis to help people since the early 1990s.
